Fun, family-style Italian dining
Buca di Beppo's has become one of our favorite places to hold special family celebrations. The atmosphere is festive, the service is friendly and accommodating and the food is very good. Tonight we were a party of 12, with a few fussy eaters in the mix, but no worries at Buca's--there's something for everyone. Tonight we ordered family-sized portions (serves 4 to 6 generously) of Spaghetti and Meatballs, Eggplant Parmigiana, and Caesar Salad. The Eggplant Parm was one of the best I've had: slices of eggplant which were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside without a trace of bitterness, are layered with gooey cheese and a bright tomato sauce. Four adults had large servings of this and there was enough leftover to serve two more. The kids enjoyed the Spaghetti and Meatballs: the pasta was cooked to al dente perfection, the tomato sauce was very nice and the meatballs--weighing in at about a half-pound apiece and the size of Tony Soprano's clenched fist--were good and garlicky. The Caesar Salad was lovely, with a light, lemony dressing; one large bowl satisfied all of the salad lovers at our table. Sliced fresh, crusty bread comes with a plate of good-quality olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping. We brought in our own cakes for the birthday gal and guy in the bunch and the staff gathered round to sing the Buca di Beppo birthday song. You can't beat this place for a fun, family atmosphere, reliably good food and warm, friendly service. Buon Mangiare!
