Bad sign number 1: asked hostess to seat us at the robata grill, she seats us at a regular table. She says the robata is in the kitchen. I'm quite suspicious there is no robata - no odor of burning wood anywhere. Bad sign 2: menu spells sake as Saki, please, maybe I should have ordered bear or whine. Bad sign 3: they didn't know what omakase meant and chefs choice sashimi wouldn't include uni or Toro, well I guess they weren't among the days best. They said they did have both but they needed to be ordered by the piece. Final bad sign: the fist item I asked for on my sashimi platter was uni. They asked me how many pieces, I replied that uni sashimi doesn't come in pieces, that I would like one order. They said yes it does come in pieces. I asked for clarification since asking for pieces of uni sashimi (no they didn't mean lobes or tongues of uni) is like asking for pieces of cream of wheat or pieces of chocolate pudding. They explained that all of their product is pre-aportioned in advance and whether they plop it down on a plate or on a piece of rice, it was the same piece. We got up and walked out at this point.

Had take out tonight. Was unappetizing! Yellow tail taste like bait! Tuna is old soggy! Spider roll tasted like it went bad. Spicy tuna roll taste like it was rolled yesterday all dry and hard and it cost $70 for That! Plus I hate soy sauce and it was leaked all over everyting. Threw out 3/4 of the food.

My husband and I live year round in North Palm Beach and we just returned from a delicious dinner enjoyed outside at UMI (4/1/11). The service was fabulous, drinks were very amplt and the dinner was probably the best we have enjoyed at restaurants in South Florida in a long time. I had the Friday hogsnapper special (A+++) and my husband had sushi style tune which he claimed was fantastic. I heartily congratulate and thank UMI and look forward to returning very soon.... and also telling my friends and neighbors about this wonderful local culinary delight.

Nice atmosphere. Sushi dragon roll tasted old, even though there was a sushi bar. Open kitchen did not look clean inside. Saki was good, skirt steak tough. Manager very friendly..service could be less snooty.

My husband and I decided to try Umi on a lark, since we rarely break from our favorite places. It was a great surprise. The atmosphere is fun and chic and the food is great -- sophisticated Japanese. It was like being in NYC. We loved it so much we reserved a table for us with friends in three days.
