    A Great Little Find!

I've been to the Tea Room a lot since it recently reopened with a new owner and I really like it! It is owned by the same person who owns Kris's Restaurant in Palmetto Bay. I live nearby, so we usually go there several times a week. Everyone who works there is very nice and attentive. My husband and I enjoy dining at the Tea Room, and so have guests that I have brought at various times. The food is made with fresh ingredients, from scratch and prepared in a flavorful and sometimes unexpected way. The sandwich I like best is prepared on a fresh baked baguette with fresh roasted vegetables, goat cheese and a pesto sauce. I’m a vegetarian and I wish they had more vegetarian entrees, since I don’t really eat things like quiches, but at least the chef has been kind enough to modify some of their menu items like the cheese quesadillas to include all sorts of roasted vegetables to my liking. I really love the soups too. There’s a good assortment of vegetarian soups, as well as meat based ones. As I said, the food is really good, but the décor is enchanting. If you go, you really need to check out all of the distinct rooms, decorated in vintage style, with different themes and memorabilia. Cauley Square is a historic place and the Tea Room is a perfect part of it. If you like freshly prepared GOOD food with fresh in season ingredients, that's very affordable too, it’s definitely worth a drive to try it out!

    Beautiful place, poor service

Has anyone ever gone to a restaurant and been treated so poorly you didn't even wait for your food to arrive? This was what my wife and I experienced this past Saturday the Village Chalet at Cauley Square. After asking a waitress where to sit and being told anywhere (there were literally only 3 other people in the restaurant at this time), ordering drinks and food, this manager/hostess comes in and says "this is a table for 4 you are only two. You need to sit in the back of the restaurant where we have tables for two." Polite reply by my wife "we would like to sit close to the band" reply "you can't you can hear from the back" our reply "never mind we are leaving" their reply "Ok" and turns around and leaves...

I brought my girlfriend here, as I remembered it as quaint with good food and service. It's still quaint, but that's all that's the same. We had a simple order; coffee, tea and ambrosia. The teapot contained lukewarm water. As my girlfriend later said "how can you mess up hot water?". By not heating it sufficiently. The coffee was also lukewarm, frankly just this side of cold. My girlfriend takes her tea with milk. Our server said they didn't have any. Really? A restaurant that had NO milk? I find that hard to believe. The ambrosia was "marshmallow soup", again in the words of my girlfriend. At close to $11, you'd think they'd at least make an effort. I don't know what happened to this place, but save your money. There are so many better places in Miami that deserve your business. The food is unacceptable, the prices are out of line for such poor quality, and the service was lackluster at best. What a shame. It was once a very nice place.

Place has great food for a personal visit . Just don't have an event there. Nobody knows what they're doing, they promise you things to have you pay first and once you pay, everything changes. I basically paid $14 per person to sit in the tea room and each person had to pay for their food. They told me the place was going to be decorated for the event and when i arrived 45 mins before the event, nothing was ready. No decorations, dirty. Staff didn't even know that there was going to be an event going on. They offered to give me a different room because ours was clearly not ready. But they said there was going to be an event there and they didn't even show up. I doubt they paid and didn't show up. I feel i got taken advantage of and they will never see my face again.

    So disappointed!

I went to the Tea Room with my mother, sister-in-law, my niece and my best friend and was looking forward to an enjoyable "girls day out." We were all so disappointed! To start with the first 3 waitresses we had did not speak English. Finally, one came in who we could communicate with. We ordered our drinks and food and 35 minutes later, they came out with the drinks. Then, 5 minutes after that, the waitress came to inform us that they were out of chicken nuggets (for my 8 yr old niece) and could they bring her the french fries and some ambrosia as a substitute. We agreed since there was no children's menu and no better substitute. 15 minutes later, our food arrived. My mother and I had ordered Turkey Rueben sandwiches. Neither one of them was hot, the bread was only slightly toasted, the turkey was right out of the refrigerator and the thousand island dressing and saurkraut was nowhere to be seen. When we inquired about the dressing and sour krout, we were informed that they had run out of both. My mother sent her sandwich back and I took mine apart and ate the turkey and cheese. When the bill came out, they had charged me $14.95 for a turkey rueben, although the price on the menu read $10.95. They had charged $10.00 for my niece's french fries and one scoop of a marshmallow pineapple salad! When we questioned the prices, the waitress said "oh, I messed up on the price of the sandwich but since I substituted the chicken nuggets with the ambrosia, it's the same price as if there would have been chicken nuggets! We requested a manager but apparently, one was not on duty. A 4th waitress came back and said "she told me to bring you this" and proceeded to leave the incorrect bill on our table. I have been to the Tea Room on several occasions a few years before and even hosted my sister-in-law's baby shower there, and have never received such poor service! We manually calculated the bill based on the food that we consumed and what was actually served and promptly left the restaurant. We refused to pay for what we were not served. I will NEVER return there again. Overpriced, poor service, food was cold, the table linens and bathrooms were dirty. Waitresses were rude and didn't speak English. I do not recommend dining here. What a shame, because it used to be lovely.
