Serious English pubfare downtown
In honor of the Olympic Games in London, we wanted British pub fare for dinner. After a little investigation we settled on Elwoods and we were not disappointed! Our son had the Elwoods burger w/ arugula, carmelized onion and manchego cheese, my husband had the fish and chips and I had chicken curry. The burger was perfectly cooked and was served with crispy fresh fries and homemade ketchup. The fish was 2 big pieces of hand battered deliciousness and the chips were very good. Again, the sauce, this time tarter sauce, was homemade and delicious. The chicken curry was fantastic! It was appropriately spicy and generously portioned. We had the homemade ice cream sandwich, which was delicious as well. They only serve beer and wine, but have a great tap selection. They are also very helpful when selecting a beer and will offer a sample or 2 so you can make your choice. The only drawback for us it the distance from home to downtown, but it was worth it and we will be back. One caviat: This place is very hard to find, even for a native! It is on NE 3rd Ave 1 storefront from the corner on the west side of the street. If you get to the corner, you've gone too far. Cheers!
