Jaxson's Ice Cream Parlor
Posted by chacharu on 07/06/2008
We were staying in Dania Beach for a cruise and saw this place. I remembered seeing something it before we left home and the long line suggested that this might be a good place to eat. We went over to find check how long the wait would be and were told that if we wanted to eat dinner it wouldn't be but a few minutes. The long line was for "just ice cream" to go or eat outside. Just waiting we saw amazing things...ice cream coming out in dishes the size of mixer bowls! We were seated and my first thought was that I've never seen such expensive ice creamprobably averaging about $10 (although many less expensive for people with a small amount of control). I might have been scared off if I hadn't seen a few of the magnificent dishes passing by. And the descriptions had my eyes boinging from my head. I'm a major ice cream freak and Jaxson's must be heaven. But first, dinner. The menu was fairly averagemainly burgers and sandwiches and nothing elaborate. Mom ordered shrimp, which turned out to be very goodlarge and tasty. Although most of the shrimp we had in Ft. Lauderdale was good. My friend had nachos, which were very pretty with brightly colored chips covered with the usual cheese & meat mixture. Nothing special but they held their own. We went back another night before we went home and got hamburgers and chicken sandwiches & they were decent too. Also, the onion rings were excellent. While they got real food, I was saving myself for the ice cream. After agonizing over many, many choices I settled for the Turtle Sundaethree dips of vanilla ice cream topped with rich butterscotch & fudge, toasted pecans & whipped cream. And when they say dips, I think they must use a small shovel. It was enormous enough that I even let my companions help. And YUMMY!! Someone at a nearby table got a large cone and it came out in a something like a large soup-bowl/plate, filled with ice cream and a cone popped up-side-down on top of the mound. Funny. Someone got a large dish of fresh peach and she said that was excellent. There were probably about 30-40 ice cream flavors to choose from, all made right there daily. All in allit was a good and fun dining experience. I like ice cream & I like humor. Jaxson's has both.
