Lil Reds Cookin

This was my absolute favorite bbq place for the past 18 years. When I worked nearby I went at least 2x a week sometimes even driving down from Coral Springs on weekends. It seems though that since the original owner died and his son has taken over the quality of the food and service has gone down somewhat. On my last visit my friend and I ordered our usual 1/4 chicken and 2 sides, mine white, his dark. While mine was fine his chicken was red and a little bloody close to the bone. I told our waitress who apologized and took the meat back. A woman came from behind the counter and informed us that their meat came out pink because of their cooking process. I explained to her that having been a patron of that restaurant for many years , I was aware of their cooking process but that there is a difference between a pink smoke ring on the surface of the meat and bloody red meat near the bone. I asked if she had seen our meat and she said no and walked away with an attitude. The meat came out the 2nd time perfectly. After we ate we ordered the key lime pie (always a favorite) to share, but after taking a bite we noticed it had an off, rancid taste. I informed our waitress who again apologized and made a joke about the restaurant having a bad day. Again the woman from behind the counter came over and told us there was nothing wrong with the pie. I asked her to taste it and she tells me that they (the staff) had all eaten from the pie the night before and that it was fine. I said that maybe the pie was past it's prime or that it had been left out. She again insisted that there was nothing wrong with the pie and walked away in a huff! I looked around for the manager or any long time employee that knew me...no luck. I've had friends comment since that the quality there has gone down. I'm reluctant to go back because I don't want another unpleasant experience. I may give Lil Red's one more chance cos I'm hoping that this visit was just a fluke and I really love this place and want to keep enjoying it.

I have been going here for the last 20 years and I have never been disappointed. Sometimes they are very crowded so you may want to time your visit earlier or later than the normal meal times to avoid the rush. That's what we do and always enjoy our visit.

Used to like this place until today. Shortly after clearing my plate, the waitress stated: we really need your table! My guest was taken aback. Don't plan to return.

I ordered their most expensive breakfast after a night of serious S. Fla. partying and was not disappointed. Bacon, sausage, sausage, eggs, biscuit, gravy, pork chop, fried chicken...hangover gone!

Brisket, chicken, pulled pork, pork chops, ribs, and sausage, plus 3 sides and Texas Toast for $16.95. And it was spectacular!! One of the best meals I have had in years. I an in Fort Lauderdale on business from the Middle Atlantic region, and was very pleased. Drove by the place and stopped on a whim; wise choice!
