I felt I had to write a review as a counterpoint to the negative review for this restaurant. I feel bad for the other reviewer's bad experience, but this may be some of the best Italian food in North America. I and my family just finished dinner here and absolutely everything from the wine (a very well priced Super Tuscan) to the dessert was brilliant. I'm from New York and the food here can easily go head to head with NYC Italian powerhouses like Del Posto and Marea. And it's all at prices that are really reasonable for the quality offered. Difficult to list what was best but the Wagyu carpaccio and the lasagna are contenders.

Very disappointing experience. I have enjoyed Pub Belly and Barceloneta etc., and was eager to try their next project located close to my house on 8th on Alton. When we arrived, the restaurant was more than half empty. I explained to the hostess my senior guest wore hearing aids and had difficulty hearing across the table, and that we would prefer a table where we could sit next to each other. Despite the availability of larger tables which could accommodate (and the fact that they don't take reservations), the hostess informed us we could only sit at the bar or a small two person table in the corner. We agreed to give the corner table a shot. As the restaurant began to fill, my guest had more and more difficulty hearing from across the table so I moved my chair to sit next to him. The hostess immediately came over and rudely demanded I move my chair back as I was impeding (the empty table) next to us. I explained my guest's disability again and offered to push our table closer to the wall or to move to one of the still available larger tables and she refused. Although we still had half a bottle of wine left, we asked for the check and the manager. The hostess returned with our check, informed us she was the owner, and when we told her how disappointed we were, she told us that we didn't need to bother coming back. In sum, the food was fine, but heavily fried and not memorable.

Great concept, and amazing execution. Get the short rib lasagna and the polenta.
