I live in downtown Miami, and every time I go to south beach I always go for lunch at Maya, they have really good steaks. And every single time i had an excellent service.

We went for an early dinner on saturday, the food was good but the service with the exception of a busboy was poor; there were only two tables beeing served and all the waiters were chatting ,looking the other way. Do not plan to go back although I dine in Lincoln Road every saturday and sunday.

I enjoyed our meal, but was annoyed by the service and clumsiness of the presentation. I'm sorry, but if you tack on an 18% gratuity for two people, you should at least try to be a decent server. Where is the incentive? I knew things were going downhill, when I received a warm cocktail. The server seemed a little rough and tumble and when I think of tapas - I think small plates - not large. Everything came at once and made our dining experience awkward. So, I suggest better service, no gratuity added to the check (I usually tip 20% for great service, 18% for good and 15% for poor), SMALL plates and chilled cocktails.

Great deal, big portions. We did their happy hour deal. We only spent $40 for food and cocktail for 3. If you're familiar with places in Lincoln Rd, you'd know that this was a good deal. Other restaurants around automatically adds 18% gratutity on your bill regardless of the number of guest, Maya's doesn't do that.

Over priced, small portion, and untrained staff My wife ordered the short ribs and I ordered the "jumbo crab cakes. The short ribs lived up to it's name and full of fat, not much meat, they should call it "very short ribs". The so called Jumbo Crab Cake where the size of a golf ball, only 2. We also order the bruscette, which came out without mozzarella cheese and on toasted white bread! The other big mistake was that my plate came out way after my wife's did. To make it short I will never eat there again.

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere but its the only thing going for it, this was the second time I dined at the establishment, the first time was poor and thought it was just a bad night so I gave it a second chance. Not a good idea. The appetizer was super expensive and was supposed to be for 2, it was the size of a tapas! The quality of the food was poor and the size was ridiculous for the price and quality. The server completely forgot about us; no one came by to see if we needed anything. To top it at the end of the night our bill included a forced gratuity of 18%! I felt the place upset and still hungry. Don't waste your time, there are many more places with much better food, a better menu and great service!

I have been to this place a few times. The gratuity is included so the servers are not attentive, and often you find yourself asking 4 different servers for something like water or more bread and it doesn't come for 20 minutes. They have decent lunch specials. On Wednesdays they have half-off bottles of wine.. My friend and I went there on a Wed and ordered the cheese plate (not recommended) and 2 bottles of wine, and both of the bottles of wine were half off.. Great deal! However, we went back there a 2nd time on a Wed and they told us that the half -off bottles of wine were only if you order entrees, after we had all sat down and ordered 2 tapas and a bottle.. not mentioned on the sign where they advertise the special or by the server when we sat down... This place is not really a tapas place. Their tapas selection is extremely limited and pricey. Although, the baked brie was tasty but sweet. My friend pointed out that their name, "Maya Tapas & Grill" doesn't make sense because tapas is a Spanish tradition and Maya is a Mexican culture.. Mexican and Spanish cultures are very different, even if they speak the same language.. And the fact that the majority of their menu is entrees (neither Spanish or Mexican dishes) with very very little tapas. After my experiences here, I'm not really inclined to return.. Perhaps for a lunch special but I certainly won't be recommending it to friends after the confusion with the wine specials and lack of tapas.
