Amazing date night
This restaurant is one of the best I've experienced in South Beach! The food was amazing! My boyfriend got the degustation menu with wine paring and I got the 3 course pairing. Everything we had was amazing. I was shy of the oxtail but tried a bite when my boyfriend got it and it was Delicious! The wine was perfectly paired with each course. The staff was so friendly and incredibly attentive. The waiter was very knowlegable about the food and wine. The chef (who has an amazing resume) even bought out one of the courses and gave us a quick description on how he came up with it. Later during the night my boyfriend and I had to leave due to an emergency just as our main courses came out. The waiter and chef were so understanding. They boxed up our food as well as our dessert course with instructions written on the top to reheat it later. They even gave us our port wine in to-go cups so we wouldn't miss out. The chef came out to make sure we understood the directions he wrote and to wish us well. We cannot wait until we go back! It was a beautiful location surrounding a pool. The only drawback I could find was that hotel guests would watch us from their balconies and 2 rather large gentlemen decided they wanted to take a dip in the pool and lounge on the nearby lounge chairs somewhat ruining the mood. I love this restaurant and would recommend it to anyone!

very disappointing
My girlfriend and I went into this dinner after having read some excellent reviews about this restaurant. Unfortunately, this place fell far below our expectations, and the only explanation we could come up with for the rave reviews we read online was that the 8 1/2 staff and/or chef went and wrote them themselves. The food sounded fantastic on the menu, but turned out to be nothing more than generic-tasting, in some cases over-salted and ultimately way overpriced for what you got. The three- or four-course tasting menus are pris fix and are advertised as a tapas-style sampling experience, but are really just half-portioned servings of the appetizers and entrees. They even had the nerve to post a $10 "up-charge" for the foie gras appetizer and lobster entree, which they tell you about after they take your order. We still decided to have the foie gras, but it was very disappointing - typical of a chef who uses a seemingly delicious sauce to overpower the dish and totally lose sight of the foie gras. And to be quite honest, I've had foie gras many a time and had serious doubts about whether it was actually foie gras because, underneath the elaborate and overdone plum and walnut sauce, it tasted nothing like it. Oh, and THE SERVICE WAS HORRENDOUS. Our waiter's incessant sniffling (which was clearly not a result of cold symptoms) would not have been nearly as disturbing if he would have managed to bring our drinks in less than 10 minutes, bring the complemetary pita and hummus before our first entree, or keep our water glasses full. We had to flag down two of the other waiters for things like this, as well as for a question about the menu. Keep in mind that the place is quite small and was far from filled to capacity that night. And did I mention that an 18% gratuity is automatically applied for this paltry service, or complete lack thereof? In the end, I'd say that one - maybe two - of the eight dishes we sampled made the grade of above 'edible.'
