My fiance had been here several times before and never had any problems, until now!!! We were a party of three at 11:30 am on a Friday morning morning. There were only two other occupied table when we sat down. Our waitress who was pleasant took our order, two of the three of us asked for bacon, mine was part of a five ingredient omelet. After waiting for almost twenty minutes, and after three more tables were seated, our waitress came out and said there was no bacon. No bacon? Two hundred yards from a Publix? Nevertheless, we both amended our order. After another 15 minutes and after all three of the tables had been served, we still had no food. I went over to the owner who happened to be there and expressed my displeasure and said , "let me check it out." He sent another waitress over to us who said, "what is your problem?" Reluctantly I explained it to her and she walked away. A few minutes later the food came out. My omelet came out so cold the cheese wasn't even melted and minus the item I had selected to replace the bacon. I brought the plate over to register where the owner was and set it down and told him it was wrong! He followed me back to my table and starting poking his finger at me and said," I don't know where you come from but people don't bring food to the register where I come from." Then he told me to get out of the restaurant. And he did this in front of my fiance and her 81 year old mother! This is the most upsetting restaurant experience I've ever had!

My husband and I stopped there for lunch on a weekday, not very busy the whole time we were there, maybe four or five parties other than us, half of whom already had food. We both ordered burgers and fries, and my husband got a fountain Coke while I got a bottle of birch beer (Olde Brooklyn, not a brand I had before, but I was excited to see BIRCH BEER on the menu). My husband HAD been excited about trying this diner out. I think that's about the only reason why we sat there for more than a half hour waiting for the food to come out in a very unbusy restaurant. ***NO*** interaction with the waiter after we got our drinks the whole time between ordering and actually getting our food. We learned after we got served that for most of our wait that there was only one cook in back until just before we got served and that they had just started using some new computer system to track orders today. Okay, that's fine, we understand that happens that is beyond the control of the waitstaff. My husband and I would never hold that sort of thing against our waiter. What we DID resent was not being told why there was a delay in getting the order out, not checking in to see if we needed a drink refill while we waited, or even asking if the food was good once we got it. It's probably wise that they didn't ask. The burgers were juicy, we'll give them that, but they were fairly plain. A little salt and pepper on the patty while it was being cooked would have made a world of difference, that's how bland they were. The few fries were crispy but plain. The fountain Coke was flat and watery, according to my husband, and the Olde Brooklyn Birch Beer tasted the same way to me. I would not recommend this place.

Went to a local Charity event and visited Shelby's for the 1st time and was very impressed. We live on the beaches and don't have anyting like this Can't wait to get a group of beachers together to go for the big pancake breakfast You guys rock... BTW we did have a problem on a busy day but it was was resolves in minutes by the owner...

After going to Shelby's for years, we have to throw in the towel. The day waitstaff are very pleasant and accommodating - the evening waitress was surly and confrontational when we tried to return undercooked chicken that was raw in the middle. After the third attempt, we decided never to return for dinner. Breakfast coffee is poor. The owners, although pleasant to talk to, don't take complaints seriously and justify everything. Really sorry to say all of this, but the prices are high and the quality is very low. And we were disappointed because this is the only diner close to us. As a result, we get in the car and travel to find decent diner food.

It was a Monday at 6 pm and they were empty. Good indicator not to go. Waitress took ten minutes to bring two cokes and two waters. My daughter had a kids meal, they gave her three chicken tenders and six, yes only six raw French fries. Her friend had the same. My Guest had a turkey florentine omlette. No cheese and no spinach. It was served in a pool of grease. Not anything you would want to eat. I had a soup and sandwich. The chili was good and the chicken salad was fresh. Best meal and only appetizing meal on the table. Last time we went it was good when we told the waitress that we were hungry and ate the food anyway, she stated they needed a cook and someone who didn't know how to cook was filling in. No we won't be returning.

I've been to diners all over the country and this one falls in the middle. You only realize that you are in a diner when you walk in. Wait staff had some attitude but could have had more. A very extensive menu so everyone had what they wanted. Service was slow which should not have happened because we were there mid afternoon and diner was almost empty. I will definitely be back next time that I am in town.

I don't know why so many bad reviews. I love the food and service. I eat here all the time. They are fast and friendly. I have been eating out a lot lately and I always come back to shelby's. I especially love the braised short rib, eat it all the time. And my girlfriend went to town on the spaghetti and meatballs. I recommend this restaurant to all of my friends and family. My folks took me here my first time and I've never stopped going back since.
