    Better than Nobu

This is without a doubt my favorite sushi restaurant in town. If you like high quality, creative, yet pricy sushi in an upscale atmosphere, then Shoji is perfect for you. If you've been to the likes of Nobu on South Beach, you may know the food is great, but the prices are over the top, and the atmosphere is loud and cramped-more like a club. At Shoji you can sit in a pretty outside area or a nice inside area with plenty of space and windows. The food is top-notch, and I would honestly say its better than anywhere, even the Nobu Matsuhisa restaurants. Amazing creamy spicy rock shrimp tempura, great ceviches, rolls, black cod, anything you'd expect. Service has always been great for me. I would completely disregard the previous review of one bad experience. I insist, as I have come to this restaurant countless times since I started going a few years ago, and its worth every penny.

What a waste of a great location and decor

If you don't have time to read my admittedly lengthly review, let me sum up by saying, average, overpriced food, disresptful, poor service, and management that knows not the first thing about the principles of any business, let alone the restaurant one. I went into Shoji tonight and ordered simply (or so I thought): a saki and a fotomaki roll. I explained to the waitress, who had noticeably limited English skills, that I wanted a roll with eel. My bill came an unordered salad and unordered additional roll (one of the 2 I had asked the waitress to help me choose between). When I tried to very politely inquire about the "misunderstanding" with my waitress, she turned in a huff and went straight to the hostess who had sat me. The hostess then lied to my face, insisting she was in fact, the manager. In actuality, I had just spoken with the manager, who wore a suit and tie, and had visited my table just moments before. I therefore asked to speak with this young man in the suit and tie, specifically. Heclaimed that he had not heard anything about the situation from his employees. Could I please explain to him from the beginnning? I did so, patiently explaining every detail and also noting that there may have been a problem of a deficit in English skills on the part of the waitress. He then looked me straight in the eye again, and said, that contradicts everything the waitress, hostess and busboy told me. Was he really so vapid (or perhaps stoned) that he did not realize that he had JUST claimed to me he'd be told nothing about the situation by his employees. I honeslty have never been so insulted and embarassed at a restaurant in my life. All this, over the price of a $10 roll, when in any other situation, my tip alone would have been close to that, not to mention the potential of return business.

    Great Sushi! Delicious Flavors!

I had ordered the Ceviche/Sushi/Sashime plate, in an effort to sample all that Shoji’s menu offers. The Salmon Ceviche was cool, fresh, and mixed with cilantro, red onions, cucumbers and a light dressing, topped with large fish roe, meshing a fusion of intricate Japanese & Latin American flavors. I was very impressed. The White Fish Ceviche was tossed with Red, Yellow and Green Bell Peppers, ad topped with small fish roe… Also tasty, but I enjoyed the Salmon Ceviche the most. The Tuna Roll and Sashimi were also clean and great quality sushi. I enjoyed the artistic touch of the sashimi, displaying fish of each dish to the side, as to resemble a painter’s palate. Very clever!
