Went to the Sushi Yama on Clematis, in City Place in West Palm Beach. Sashimi old and rancid-smelling, edamame yellowish-brown, soggy and also had a rancid smell, seaweed on sushi so soggy, that we couldn't bite into and tear it. Unagi (eel) smothered in some cold, sickeningly sweet sauce and the salmon skin hand roll had only rice and over-burned, tasteless salmon skin in it. The sushi rice fell apart, in everything and didn't have the characteristic sticky consistency. When we complained, they didn't take one thing off the receipt or try to send us something else, as replacement....even though we left 75% of the food on the table. Although we've never been to any of their other locations (because we've heard the sushi is inferior), these are supposed to be seasoned operators. Plus, this Clematis branch of the restaurant chain has only been opened 3 weeks - no excuse for old, ancid, soggy food.

My wife and I went there on Jan 4th for our anniversary dinner. (We use to live in Japan and loved it...) Upon arrival at 7;15 we were put on a wait list. ( No problem.) we were offered a table just inside the door which we rejected. Two ladies behind us accepted. A booth came open just as a party of 4 arrived and the manager said she really needed the booth for larger parties and sat the foursome. 10 minutes later a table came up and they sat us at a four top. We noticed we were getting exceptionally slow service. They finally took our order, at which time a manager came up and said we had to move because they needs to move tables together for a large party. We were annoyed, but got up only to be shown to a booth overlooking the toilets and garbage area... In absolute frustration we left. Management could have cared less. Needless-to-say we will never go back!

My husband and I decided this place would be a regular stop at least every two weeks for us. From the day they opened, we have loved the sushi! As for the staff, they are absolutely wonderful!!! This is a family business and although maybe once or twice the service has been slow, but by no means has anyone ever been difficult or nasty with us. Sushi Yama's food is outstanding with mega size rolls and a terrific price.

The food here is pretty good but the service is not. I went there about a month ago 30 minutes before they closed and they said they were already closing the sushi bar so I had to order right away and then they rushed us the entire meal. We tried to go there again last Sunday when they were supposed to be open until 10pm and as we were walking up at 8:30 there was a hand written sign in the door saying they would be closing at 9pm so we left because we did not want to be rushed again. We will not be heading there again when in the mood for sushi next time with such unreliable service.

Can't really say enough good things about this place! Their sushi is great! I love the rice-less rolls, as well as the basic sushi rolls, their tempura appetizers are just perfectly crispy and not too light. I usually get edamame and the portion is great for sharing and cooked to perfection. Iced green tea is tasty! Their sushi boats are absolutely beautiful and delish! And dessert is a complete treat! Tempura fried ice cream! Yum! Also for lunch, the bento boxes are great, totally fills you up and leaves you totally satisfied! Lunch is til 5 also, which is pretty unheard of but makes dining on a budget so easy and convenient :)
