Tropical Chinese Restaurant

I go there all the time for dim sum as,well as the take out and for regular sit down Saturday dinner. The service is poor. They are not polite AT ALL. I mean you ask for something like duck sauce or ice or maybe sugar for your tea and they look like they get upset at you.

Ambience and service were good. The food is westernized, serving is on the smaller size and, overpriced. The Roasted duck was dry and hard, Honey chicken was not too different from those found in takeouts in my neighbourhood, XO shrimps was tasty, Sizzling beef was good, Szechwan pork regular, the chowfun was tasteless...

Year over year Tropical provides consistent quality and service. Dim Sum should be served this way and the quality is high at this price point. I have sampled from Hong Kong, Singapore, Peking ( the old name ), Shanghai, Tokyo & Bangkok and Tropical is authentic and delicious.

Usually I don't have any issues with Tropical Chinese Restaurant. My wife and I went there for a quick Friday night date. We got our table pretty quick like usual and greeted with a smile. The waiter was at the table right away, but he did not have a notepad or pen. He had to ask my wife for her order twice. My wife asked for everything to be brought at the same time. They did not. They brought one after the other. One of the shrimp balls tasted stale. We got our check and we paid and then we left. I don't know if we're going to come back to Tropical anymore. I'm a bit disappointed.

I strongly urge you to order the Pecking Duck to start which comes as an appetizer course where they cut the skin off the roasted duck & serve in "pancakes" (crepes) with their plum sauce and scallions. They bring out the rest of the duck as an entree that is also quite delicious. I would also suggest the crispy pork appetizer as well as the spring rolls. Any fried rice you desire will be quite tasty although I would have you try the pineapple fried rice. The emperor's prawns are by far my favorite shrimp to eat anywhere. (Ask for the sauce on the side which is a mayo based sauce to not make the shrimp soggy). And finally the honey garlic chicken. If every piece of chicken has not vanished by the time your meal is finished you probably are lacking taste buds. Buen provecho!

Tropical Chinese is a hidden gem in west Miami. Although it does look like much from the exterior, it is lovely and elegant inside. We had a couple of apps, spring rolls (just ok), shrimp wontons, steaming hot & crispy... But what blew us away was the Peking duck! We're still dreaming of it and can't wait to go back.

I used to work next to Chinatown in NYC andI have been eating Dim Sum for more than 30 years. Tropical is excellent and can be hold it own with place I've eaten in NYC or in San Francisco. Regular menu is excellent as well.
